 DASHTENTS (Tonoyan) Khachik was born on May 25, 1910 in the village Dashtadem (Bitlis province). He was an  Armenian writer, translator, philologist. Honored Cultural Figure of Armenian SSR (1967). He graduated from the Yerevan State University (1932), and then the Moscow Institute of Foreign Languages, department of the English language. 

Dashtents is the author of poetry collections "Songbook", (1932), "Spring Songs", (1934), as well as "Tigran the Great" tragedy (1947). Dashtents became famous with the novel “Khodedan” (1950) that reflects the tragedy of the Western Armenians and life of inhabitants of Sasun, then the unique novel "Call of Plowmen" (1979).
