“Historians school-2017” organized by the Historians Association of Armenia launched in Palyans Hall of Yerevan State University on March 20, 2017. It should be noted Bachelor's, Master's and PhD students in Historical sciences are given an opportunity to participate and listen to the lectures of the experts of the field.
In his opening speech, M. Hovhannisyan spoke about the aims of the school and tasks set before it. “The course aims to develop future historians’ professional skills through targeted lectures, promote professional development outside classroom and academic format. Unfortunately, the culture of seminars and open debates is almost missing nowadays and “Historians Association of Armenia” NGO has set a task to fill this gap and aims to become a unifying structure for historians. I must note that HAA has been functioning since 2016. It has its official website հaa.am. NGO has more than 90 members who believe that we can work together and make serious progress in the professional sphere”,-noted M. Hovhannisyan.
He also urged the participants to be active in discussions with professors, raise their concerns and suggest their own vision of solutions.
Ashot Melkonyan, in his turn, greeted those presents. He noted that previously he delivered lectures for students in different formats, and now it is the first time he communicates in online format. He highly appreciated the opportunity, emphasized the importance of the course as the profession of the historian is of great importance in terms of the scientific policy. Without the mutual communication between society and historians, without solving ideological issues it is impossible to imagine the possibility of the survival of the Armenian people in this geopolitical region. Then Melkonyan began to deliver his lecture which concerned the issues of the Armenian statehood.
It should be noted that history students from Artsakh, Vanadzor State Universities, as well as Ijevan Branch of YSU participated in the course online.
The participates will receive certificates at the end of the course.
