“The annual report of YSU was held today. The University’s financial highlights and the estimate of costs and revenues of 2012 (7.660.183.000 AMD) were presented. Because of the lack of school graduates in 2011, the first-year students were few, nevertheless, the financial condition of YSU was not so bad during this year. Despite difficulties, we could avoid redundancies. Moreover, in 2011 more than 30 young lecturers were employed”,-said the YSU Rector Aram Simonyan. He focused on the educational, scientific-research, publishing, editing and printing activities of YSU during the 2010/2011 academic year. Speaking about the changes in the educational system A. Simonyan noted that YSU passed to the credit system in Bachelor’s, Master’s and Postgraduate courses last year. Serious steps were taken for the re-qualification of lecturers, esp. of foreign language and computer skills. During the year the library fund was enriched with 9102 books, 746 journals, 83 scientific theses, a collection of 112 newspapers as well as academic books. The number of published monographs has increased by 50 percent. More than 1800 scientific articles were published abroad, most of them in top-ranked journals. Nowadays, the YSU library is provided with free wireless Internet connection, which significantly improves the quality of library services. The YSU Publishing House was very productive during that period. Approximately, 200 books were published. According to A. Simonyan there have been 36 Grant programs in YSU since March, 2011. More than 183 scientific associates are engaged in YSU Grant programs. 10 Doctorial and 78 PhD theses were defended during the previous academic year. Four research laboratories in the sphere of basic programs were opened. YSU continues to carry out the training courses for state employees. Last year it was planned to increase the qualification of administrative specialists, and this program will be implemented this year. A.
