On October 4, the 6th Pan- Armenian Forum of Journalists on “The 100th  anniversary of Armenian Genocide” started in Yeghishe Charents Hall of the YSU.  During the three-day conference 90 representatives of Armenian Diaspora Press had an opportunity to discuss the issues connected with effective presentation of the information referring to the Armenian genocide to the international community.

The Deputy Director of YSU Institute for Armenian Studies Mher Hovhannisyan also delivered a report during the Forum. An attempt was made to represent not only the necessity of taking certain steps in journalism but also the importance of combination of academic and journalistic work in this field.

IAS Deputy director Mher HovhannisyanThe report of M. Hovhannisyan was on “The representation of issues connected with the  Armenian Genocide on Internet”. “We tried to represent the problems that exist in this field. Websites can be classified into four groups 1. News websites 2. State and public-political websites, 3. Forums, Blogs, social networks, 4. Websites containing scientific materials. I’d like to single out the websites of the 4th group, as it is considered to be a base for the previous four groups and can supplement the journalistic articles with scientific materials”, said M. Hovhannisyan.   In his report, the Deputy Director represented activities of IAS on Internet and spoke about the websites of the Institute, particularly www.armeniansgenocide.am  and official website of the Institute www.armin.am, where one can find academic materials on the genocide and Armenology in general.

<<We encouraged the journalists to use academic materials while writing articles about Armenian Genocide. Academic materials are regularly added to our websites. We emphasized that it is important for both news websites and academic websites to be connected by links. News websites should contribute to the spread of certain academic materials>> said deputy Director of IAS Mher Hovhannisyan.
